Privacy Policy
Last updated: 31 July 2026
Rail Typing ("the site") is an unofficial, fan-made typing game. We take your privacy seriously — this policy explains what data the site collects, how it's used, and how you can control it.
Data stored on your device
Your settings (theme, sound, language), your run history and your personal bests are written to your browser's localStorage. If you never sign in, they never leave your device. Clearing your browser data, or playing in a private window, removes them.
Accounts and signing in
You can play, keep local results and submit to the leaderboard without an account. Signing in with Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with the site, which we store so your history and personal bests follow you between devices; we never receive your Google password. Guests are given an anonymous account identifier so a run can be attributed consistently — it is not linked to any personal detail. To delete your account and everything attached to it, email the address at the bottom of this page.
Data submitted to the leaderboard
When you submit a run we store the nickname you chose, that run's statistics (time, CPM, WPM, accuracy, per-station splits), the line and mode you played, and the account identifier above. We never ask for your real name, postal address or phone number. To have an entry removed, contact us with enough detail to identify it.
Anti-abuse and security
Leaderboard submissions from players without an account are checked with Cloudflare Turnstile, which may process your IP address and other technical signals to confirm you are not a bot. The site runs on Cloudflare Workers, which logs requests for security and performance under Cloudflare's standard practices. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for what that involves.
Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which lines and pages get used, in aggregate. It sets its own cookies and processes technical information such as your approximate location, device, browser and the pages you visit. We do not use it to identify individuals. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services, and Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on if you would rather it collected nothing.
Advertising
We use third-party advertising companies, including Google, to serve ads on this site.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and to other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and other sites.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by Google at Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info, or, in Europe, at Your Online Choices. Where the law requires consent for advertising cookies, ads are only personalised if you have given it, and you can change your mind at any time.
See Google's advertising policies and technologies for the full detail.
Cookies and similar technologies
The site itself sets one cookie, i18n_locale, to remember your language, and a session cookie once you sign in. Game data is kept in localStorage rather than cookies. Beyond that, the analytics and advertising services described above set their own cookies, which you can block or delete through your browser's settings — the game will still work, though your language preference and sign-in will not persist.
Third-party services we rely on
In full: Cloudflare (hosting, security, bot checks), Google Analytics (usage statistics), Google Sign-In (optional accounts), and Google AdSense and its advertising partners (ads). Each processes data under its own privacy policy. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone beyond the providers listed here.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices
You can clear localStorage and cookies at any time to remove local data; use the advertising opt-outs above to stop personalised ads; and email us to delete an account, a leaderboard entry, or to ask what we hold about you. Depending on where you live you may also have rights to access, correct, export or erase your data, and we will honour those requests regardless of where you live.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy as the site's features change; the date at the top of this page always reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be noted on the site.
